So anyway, the night of the last blog we headed up to Chachapoyas, and arrived in the early morning. It's still in the mountains, but on the same side as the Amazon, so it's surrounded by jungle.

The next day we walked up to a pre-Inca ruin called Kuelap- the guide says it should take 5-6 hours and we did it in 3, so we were very pleased with ourselves! We were also basically the only people there, which is normal apparently as the place is so isolated, and the ruins were full of llamas, which is always a bonus. It was very impressive- the wall around the site is over 6m tall and inside you can still make out where a lot of the building stood.

Then we walked on to the next village (another good few hours) to find a bed and dinner (and it was very good- they uise all sorts of jungly spices as it's basically in the Amazon). Next day we got up at 5am to start a verrry long walk up to a nearby waterfall called Gocta (see photos, although it's hard to get an idea of how high it was- nearly a kilometre from top to bottom- by the time the water hits the bottom it's essentially just mist). It claims to be the third highst in the world, I shall have to check on wikipedia.
After a whole day walking and sweating through the jungle we got back to Chachapoyas just in time to pick up our stuff and board a night bus down to Trujillo, a big city on the coast. We arrived this morning and found a cheap hotel near the beach- I went in the sea but it was surprisingly cold!! (Adele was too chicken).

Ross forgot to say that we managed to see those ants that carry the little leaves to feed the giant mould in the ants-house, like they show in one of the documentaries of David Attenborough!!! But we missed the puma, the toucan and the famous Cock of the Rock :))))Adele
CIAO!!! Abbiamo passato 2 giorni bellissimi su e giu e dentro e fuori dalla giungla, nutrendoci quasi solo di banane. Il primo giorno abbiamo trovato delle rovine fantastiche della antica citta di Kuelap in cima a una salita che la guida dava come 5-6 ore e noi abbiam fatto in 3 ore e 15 minuti, grande performance, ero morta. Le rovine di questa antica citta preincaica erano spettacolari e per di piu abitate solo da lama. Praticamente non c era nessun altro tranne il bigliettaio. Poi abbiamo trovato alloggio in un piccolo villaggio a altre 2 ore di cammino, molto confortevole e con docce calde! almeno la mia. Credo che poi l acqua calda sia finita perche Ross mi ha odiata. Abbiamo fatto anche una cena particolarmente deliziosa a base di carne disidaratata e grattuggiata su un letto di riso e patate. Era buono per davvero!
La mattina successiva siamo partiti ancora col buio e ci siamo imbarcati in un altra camminata bestiale di 8 ore che arrivava e tornava dalla terza cascata piu alta al mondo che si chaima Cataracta Gocta e sfido chiunque ad averla mai sentita. Era alta 770 e passa metri e aveva 2 cadute, siamo andati prima in cima e poi siamo scesi per un sentierino spaccagambe fino alla pozza sotto. in pratica era cosi alta che l acqua quasi non arrivava, arrivava sotto forma di vapore di goccioline! La camminata era bellissima e molto soddisfacente, nella foresta nebulare con pappagalli verdi e urlanti e file di formiche che trasportavano foglioline (per cug.Andrea: sai quelle che nel formicaio han la muffona giga e portano le foglie per darle alla muffa e poi si mangiano la muffa???)
Abbiamo perso pero i tucani e il Cock of the Rock. Ma vabbe.
Il ritorno abbiam corso praticamente perche avevamo paura di perdere il bus, ci simao caricati sul bus delle 7 e 30 di sera per scendere alla costa dove siamo ora (12 ore) vi lascio immaginare e nostre condizioni! (e la nostra puzza anche!--perfortuna eravamo seduti vicini! e ci annullavamo a vicenda!) non credo di essere mai stata cosi sporca!
Stamattina la hostess del pullmann ha fatto un estrazione e indovinate chi ah vinto un bello e utile zainetto con il logo della compagnia di trasporto?? certo che la fortuna non mi lascia mai! e ora che ne faccio??? e`orribile.
Mi dispiace per le foto che mostrano i miei sexy pantaloni appena sopra il ginocchio. Sarebbero dovuti essere un segreto. Sono di quelli con la cerniera che si stacca il fondo! Non ho mai messo niente che mi faccia sentire piu scrausa. :(
Oggi siamo nelle vicinanze di Trujilla sull oceano Pacifico e Ross ha fatto il bagno mentre io sono stata troppo codarda. Io ho preferito una bella doccia. E ora ce ne andiamo a cucinarci a cena nella cucina dell albergo. Se non sentite piu niente di noi, e`perche siamo caduti nelle grinfie di una abitante dell albergo, che e`una signora molto strana con la stanza piena zeppa di vestiti, parrucche e piatti. Lo sappiamo perche ci siam fatti prestare un coltellaccio per tagliare un ananas. Ed e`abbastanza inquietante. Ha anche dei sopracciglioni disegnati e dice di avere 75 anni. Secondo me non e`vero e di notte fa degli spettacolini in qualche nightclub.
